I’ve been thinking about all the kitchen tools that I find indispensable, and wanted to share them with Gourmetcentric readers. The first one that comes to mind are the Microplane Stainless Steel graters and zesters. I used to use a typical box grater that’s found in every kitchen, and then I discovered the Microplane Grater. This thing grates cheese with ease. The zesters will have you grating a pile of zest in no time. Because of it’s shape, you are able to grate directly over your pot or plate. You will never want to buy pre-grated cheese again. The Microplane takes the drudgery out of grating cheese. A few years back “Cooks Magazine” tested graters and the Microplane was rated #1.
It’s no wonder they are so sharp, the company started back in 1990 as a woodworking tool company. If it’s sharp enough to shave wood, then you know they’re sharp enough to grate some Parmigiano Reggiano.
They make great gifts for cooking affectionados. When my father visits the US from France, he brings them back as gifts. Oh yeah, and did I mention, they’re made in the US. MICROPLANE
Notice the texture of the grated cheese. It creates fluffy individual shavings of cheese.
