Today we decided to eat out. We made the trek into town to go to one of my favorite spots, Joan’s on Third. In L.A., anywhere more than 10 miles away becomes an all day outing, due to the traffic. To my surprise, they’ve expanded since my last visit. I then realized that the last time I was there, I was 8 1/2 months pregnant, which was over five years ago. Whenever I came to town for my pregnancy check ups, I made sure to visit Joan’s for lunch, and to pick up for that night’s dinner. Today, I brought my girls, and husband along.
As soon as you step into Joan’s, the whole place is like eye candy for foodies. Along with great food, they sell Artisanal cheeses, breads, cooking oils, etc. You line up and gladly await your turn to order your food. If you are lucky to find a seat, they then bring your food to your table. Joan’s on Third has such a wide variety of scrumptious delights for your palate. From wonderful sandwiches, such as their Bon Appetit featured “Grilled Cheese and Short Rib Sandwich” (which actually made the cover of the magazine) to their kid (and grown up) pleasing Mac & Cheese. If you are in the mood for lighter fare, there’s an array of salad and vegetable choices such as Butternut Squash Salad with Pine nuts, Basil & Lemon Yogurt, or how about some Tarragon Chicken Salad with toasted Pecans & Apples. Wow, I’m getting hungry just writing this. After 2 pm, they offer hot dinner specials such as Five Herb Whole Chicken, or Beef Bourguignon.
On today’s visit my two girls ordered their famous Mac & Cheese and for dessert, Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake and a Fudge Brownie that would knock your socks off. I had a perfectly cooked Oven Roasted Seabass with Lemon & Capers, along with Grilled Vegetables and Cauliflower Gratin with pearl onions and Gruyere cheese. This ain’t your regular deli or food counter and as far as I’m concerned it smashes the famous Dean and Deluca’s. Joan’s on Third 8350 West Third Street, Los Angeles, Ca 90048 Open seven days a week
